Lawmakers to have $575 million in new money to spend in coming budget year

OKLAHOMA CITY — Lawmakers will have nearly $575 million more to spend in crafting the fiscal year 2020 budget, a slight drop from earlier estimates, according to figures released Wednesday.

The figure is 7.5 percent more than the Legislature appropriated for fiscal year 2019, but it is nearly $38 million less than the December estimate.

The Board of Equalization met Wednesday to certify spending figures. In December, the board indicated the state would have some $612 million in additional revenue.

“It is down far less than what we saw in the projections for December,” said State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister, who serves on the board. “So December to February, we are down far less than expected, which is good news. We were bracing for a lower amount in the amount that could be appropriated.” FULL ARTICLE
