Oklahoma is among about a third of U.S. states that could lose federal highway funding if they fail to meet a Jan. 30 deadline that requires truck drivers to provide personal health data to a new federal database.
This could cost Oklahoma nearly $20 million, according to an Oklahoma Department of Transportation official. After having been a donor state for highway money until recent years, Oklahoma can't afford to lose that funding, especially considering the sorry state of some of our roads and bridges.
States that fail to comply with the federal mandate could lose 5 percent of highway funds. If they remain out of compliance for a second year, the penalty doubles... FULL ARTICLE
