OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma Legislature voted Friday to recess rather than end the session by adjourning sine die.
Senate Concurrent Resolution 20, which passed both the House and the Senate on Friday, would allow the Legislature to reconvene prior to the constitutionally mandated adjournment deadline next week. The move reportedly was taken as a precaution against vetoes by Gov. Mary Fallin, although House Speaker Kris Steele said that was not the case.
"The primary purpose is not to override (a veto), it just gives us flexibility," Steele said during discussion of the resolution.
"I do not anticipate us being called back," said Steele. "This gives us that option if we need to reconvene next week."
