Mayor Cornett: Time to get to work

– Mayor Mick Cornett struggled with the overall theme of his annual State of the City address because residents have already passed the $777 million MAPS 3 tax issue, he said Wednesday.

Past presentations have focused on identifying the city’s capital improvement projects. Now that those are scheduled and funded, it’s time to start realizing the promise of Oklahoma City’s bright future, he said.

“I have spent much of the last three years here and everywhere else discussing all of the futuristic issues involved with MAPS 3,” he said. “And then I woke up on December 9th and realized I didn’t have anything to say. Now, we’re ready to get to work, and we’ve got a big assignment ahead of us.”

Cornett spoke to nearly 1,000 people during the luncheon in the Cox Center arena downtown. It was a record turnout for the event. Sponsors included The Journal Record, the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber and the Thunder NBA team... FULL ARTICLE
