Outgoing Oklahoma House Speaker Chris Benge is joining the Tulsa Mayor's Office as director of intergovernmental and enterprise development, Mayor Dewey Bartlett told the Tulsa World.

"Our strong team has just gotten stronger," Bartlett said of Benge becoming a top member of his management team.

Benge, R-Tulsa, is term limited and will leave his state office on Tuesday after the newly elected lawmakers are sworn in. He will join the city Wednesday and participate in his first meetings Thursday.

His $100,000 salary will be paid from public and private funds.

A native Tulsan, the 48-year-old said he welcomes all the challenges and rewards that the job will bring.

Benge said that not only will he be moving from a legislative environment into the executive branch, but he also realizes that at the local level "you're more in a bubble than at the state level." FULL ARTICLE
