Mayor Mick Cornett says energy tax hikes would hurt Oklahoma City

Mayor attends White House meeting on transportation, says money needs to go to cities.

WASHINGTON — After attending a White House meeting on a proposal to boost federal spending on transportation, Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett on Monday expressed concern about how the plan would be funded and whether cities would get their fair share.

Cornett said he told President Barack Obama that financing the $50 billion plan by taxing oil and gas companies would hurt job creation in Oklahoma City and drive up fuel prices nationwide.

"He didn't respond, but he heard me," he said.
