State officials say an increase in revenue generated by the sale of vehicles shows consumer confidence in the economy is growing.
"I think it is safe to say the steady improvement in our economy led to dramatic increases in motor vehicle taxes from a year ago," said Preston Doerflinger, secretary of finance and revenue.
Companies have significantly increased hiring this year and more Oklahomans can afford to purchase vehicles, Doerflinger said.
"I also believe there was a pent-up demand out there," he said, noting that many people had deferred buying cars and trucks as the recession took hold.
