Residents throughout the greater Tulsa area agree on the need for more transportation options, according to a survey that is part of an ongoing effort to create a regional transit system plan.
The survey of 1,000 people, conducted by Collective Strength of Austin, Texas, found that respondents believe public transportation dollars should be split between streets and highways, and alternative forms of transportation.
Public funding in the region for those transportation modes is now split 80/20.
"There is life beyond streets and highways. That is the over-arching thing that we see from this survey," said James Wagner, a transportation planner with the Indian Nations Council of Governments.
INCOG began work on the Tulsa Regional Transit System Plan about a year ago. The focus of the effort is to identify and prioritize potential corridors for public transportation and the transportation mode that best fits each corridor.
A draft of the plan is expected to be completed early this summer.
The survey was conducted in the fall in part to ensure that the developing transit plan was in line with residents' attitudes about the area's transportation system and needs for the future... FULL ARTICLE
