Despite arguments that the name is “cumbersome” and “too long,” Oklahoma City Boulevard will greet visitors to downtown when the new road replaces the current alignment of Interstate 40 south of downtown.
The street name was pitched by Mayor Mick Cornett and approved 8-1 Tuesday by the Oklahoma City Council.
The $85 million boulevard will be built by the state Transportation Department and is expected to serve as a major gateway to downtown and a key to development of a blighted area south of downtown known as “Core to Shore.”
