New Combs Bridge brings flooding problems to road

During its nearly 90-year existence, the old Combs Bridge frequently became engulfed in flooding waters while spanning the Illinois River on State Highway 10.

While the new bridge has not suffered that fate, the same cannot be said for the nearby road.

Construction began on the new Combs Bridge in 2014, just 2,000 feet downstream from the old bridge. The 600-foot-long structure is connected to East 690 Road.

The old bridge, located just behind Eagle Bluff Resort, only allowed one lane of vehicular traffic across the river. It was built in the late 1920s and was demolished in 2016 after being declared functionally obsolete by state standards... FULL ARTICLE
