New southbound lanes and a bridge on Broadway Extension were opened Thursday as part of the $30 million reconstruction project at the Kelley Avenue and Memorial Road interchange.
Reconstruction is expected to continue through the fall.
"The traffic has been shifted two lanes,” said Cole Hackett, a state Transportation Department spokesman. "Drivers will notice a change, but nothing big is opening up.”
At 9 a.m. Monday, the northbound traffic will be shifted to the west so the old roadway can be torn up, Hackett said.
