OKLAHOMA CITY
— Several fees will rise Thursday when dozens of new laws take effect.

People seeking driving records will pay $25 instead of $10 when Senate Bill 1556 takes effect.

Insurance companies, employers and residents typically request copies of driving records, said Maj. Rusty Rhoades, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety. The cost for copies has not been increased since the 1990s, he said. The change is expected to generate about $6 million for the state's general revenue fund.

Also, a variety of fees collected in civil court filings will increase by $3 under House Bill 3267.

Adoption case fees will rise to $105 from $102. Fees in civil actions of $10,000 or more will increase to $163 from $160. The filing fee for cases involving divorce will rise to $143 from $140.

Mike Evans, administrative director of the courts, said, "The money will be collected in the district court, just like any other fee or cost, and then the local courts use all the fees they collect for their own operating expenses with regard to budgets already approved by the chief justice."
