NORMAN, Okla. — A Norman city official says an overpass over Interstate 35 at Rock Creek Road should be open by the end of this month if there are no more delays.
Public Works Director Shawn O'Leary tells the Norman Transcript the Oklahoma Department of Transportation granted contractors on the project an extension that's set to expire July 27.
O'Leary says most of the work remaining at the site is "finishing touches" to the $12.5 million project.
He says the city hopes the overpass will ease traffic in and out of a popular shopping area on the east side of the highway. The bridge includes 10-foot-wide sidewalks for joggers and bicyclists.
The city is paying $5.5 million of the project's costs, with ODOT and the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments paying the rest.
