OCU hosts candidate forum

EDMOND — Candidates for governor and state superintendent of public instruction spoke of State Question 744 at a forum Wednesday at Oklahoma City University.

U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin and state Sen. Randy Brogdon were two Republican candidates who chose not to appear at the gubernatorial forum.

An initiative petition supported by the Oklahoma Education Association, SQ 744 would repeal a section of the state Constitution. It would require the state to meet the regional per pupil average for common education spending in public schools.

A House study revealed approval of SQ 744 would require a 40 percent tax increase or a 22 percent hit across the board of every state agency... FULL ARTICLE
