The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality is accepting comments regarding the application of a permit that would allow highway repairs along the upper Illinois River.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation applied for the permit to repair damage caused by recent flooding at Hanging Rock Camp in Cherokee County.
The proposal includes placement of 2,000 tons of riprap stones along the banks of the Illinois River at the damaged locations. A draft response prepared by ODEQ officials indicates the proposal would be acceptable with certain conditions that would minimize the project’s environmental impact.
To review the application, ODEQ’s water quality certification draft or comment on the transportation department’s proposal, contact Elina Jigoulina, Water Quality Division, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, P.O. Box 1677, Oklahoma City, OK 73101-1677.
