The impact of a 4.7 magnitude earthquake which hit six miles southeast of Norman Wednesday morning, was reportedly felt in 19 counties throughout the state Wednesday.
Now Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) crews are making sure no significant damage has been done by inspecting 23 bridges within a 50 mile radius of the quakes Lake Thunderbird epicenter.
ODOT spokeswoman, Terri Angier says public safety is the agency's number one concern, and that the evaluations and inspections are a necessary part of ensuring such safety, even though the bridges are built to withstand much more than just shaking and rumbling.
"Bridges are of course designed for vibrations, and trucks going over them at high speeds and causing the bridge to perhaps shake a little bit and also the extremes of weather," Angier said... FULL ARTICLE & WATCH VIDEO
