OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews have narrowed a busy stretch of Interstates 40 and 44 in Oklahoma City to make emergency repairs.

ODOT officials urged motorists on Friday to avoid the Amarillo junction in downtown Oklahoma City until early Saturday so that a one-foot hole in a bridge can be fixed.

Eastbound lanes of I-40 and I-44 were narrowed to one lane each, causing severe congestion.

Officials encouraged drivers to use Interstates 235 or 240 instead.
