ODOT plan will increase safety

EDMOND
— More than 100 bridges a year will be replaced or rehabilitated in Oklahoma, according to the eight-year Construction Work Plan of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. ODOT released its eight-year Construction Work Plan by the Oklahoma Transportation Commission last week.

“I think the future looking through the windshield looks a whole lot better than looking through the rear view mirror right now,” said Gary Ridley, director of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

An action necessary for the department to function in the long term, more than $4.3 billion in bridge and highway improvements are planned by the end of 2019, said Terri Angier, ODOT spokeswoman.

This eight-year plan is updated each year because a blueprint is needed for rights-of-way and designing projects.

Federal funding makes 60 percent of the eight-year Construction Work Plan possible, Angier said. The state will have contributed an estimated $1.72 billion by the end of 2019, according to ODOT... FULL ARTICLE
