Resurfacing on the Oklahoma 16 bridge over the Verdigris River has been a plus and a minus for Okay business owner Ellen Fielder.
Fielder and her husband own E & W Storage, Statuary and Flea Market at the north end of the bridge, which has been limited to one lane of traffic since early September. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation and Becco Construction put a temporary stoplight in front of the E & W yard to restrict the southbound motorists. Another stoplight on the bridge’s south side restricts northbound traffic.
“It’s probably helped our flea market on the weekends with people stopped on the highway seeing our cement statuary,” she said. “But when I got groceries in Muskogee, I’ve had to wait 20 minutes coming back over the bridge.”
Motorists and business owners in Okay, Checotah and Webbers Falls say they hope for quick completion of highway projects in their communities. Officials with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation say the projects are running on schedule... FULL ARTICLE
