The City of Comanche is getting some benefits of having a major highway through town as the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) is replacing asphalt along Highway 81.

City Manager Chuck Ralls said the project wasn’t related to a grant the city was awarded for new sidewalks along the same route.

“This is a project that ODOT has opted to do, they are covering the total expenses and are going to mill out and completely replace Highway 81 from city limit to city limit,” he said. “Then late this summer, they are going to resurface Highway 53 from city limit to city limit. It will coincide with what they are doing here. Then we will do our sidewalk project and some roadwork and it abuts to another project that ODOT has scheduled to commence in 2023 and that is a widening of State Highway 53 from 5th Street all the way out to Edgewoods. They are going to be making it three lanes and widening the highway there.” FULL ARTICLE
