CHICKASHA, Okla. — The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) is responding to heat damage on US81, just north of Ninnekah.

The highway was affected by the recent high temperatures, causing some of the road to buckle, Madison Schein, Media and Public Relations with ODOT, said.

On Monday morning, about a mile of southbound US81 was narrowed to one lane at SH19, north of Ninnekah and just south of Chickasha. ODOT currently estimates the road will be narrowed through mid-August or about 10 days. ODOT will also be doing some work in preparation of the upcoming heat wave.

ODOT advises drivers to use caution and plan extra travel time when taking this route.
