ENID — Several Garfield County road and bridge repairs remained on Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s eight-year plan to revamp the state’s transportation infrastructure.
The county is slated to undergo nearly $17 million in repairs through 2018, according to the 74-page Construction Work Plan released by ODOT Tuesday. This includes the renovation of a major bridge near North Enid in 2012 and two other bridge projects in the rural parts of the county in 2014.
ODOT releases its eight-year plans every year and claims an 80 percent on-time completion rate. The Garfield County projects were slated for the same construction dates in last year’s plan, which demonstrates the department’s belief the bridges weren’t unsafe enough to warrant bumping up the start time. But they still were enough of a priority not to move them back.
“We’ve been able to make leaps and bounds and replace bridges a lot faster than they deteriorate,” said ODOT spokesman Cole Hackett. “Anyone driving on Oklahoma roads can be certain we get out first to bridges that need repair the most.” FULL ARTICLE
