OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Department of Transportation will build nine port of entry stations across Oklahoma under a joint program between ODOT, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority.
Details of the plan were announced Monday during the state Transportation Commission meeting.
Transportation Secretary Gary Ridley said the stations – formerly known as weigh stations – would be installed at key entry locations along the state border. The stations, Ridley said, would help minimize delays for truck traffic and stop violators with illegal and unsafe loads. He said each facility would include truck scales, parking lanes and enclosed inspection bays.
Cost for the project would be about $61 million, he said, with the corporation commission paying $54 million of the cost and a third agency, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, contributing funding for a facility in Ottawa County... FULL ARTICLE
