CATOOSA - State transportation officials met with residents Thursday night to discuss possible improvements to one of the lowest-rated bridges in northeast Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma 66 bridge over Bird Creek, which was built in 1936 during the Great Depression, has been deemed structurally deficient and was closed in December due to deteriorating conditions and road capacity.
Oklahoma Department of Transportation spokeswoman Kenna Mitchell said the meeting was to update residents on plans for replacement. ODOT has performed more than 40 emergency repairs to the westbound bridge since 2008.
Citizens attending the meeting asked about issues including the new bridge's appearance and whether it would be able to accommodate three lanes.
Don Culbert, 68, an eight-year Catoosa resident, described himself as a concerned citizen. He owns property near the bridge and wanted to know when the new bridge would be completed.
