Officials plot multimodal transportation logistics center for Tulsa area

TULSA – Area transportation executives as well as area elected officials are working to create a logistics center connecting the Port of Catoosa with Tulsa International Airport with rail and truck transportation.

The regional approach would have an impact beyond Tulsa, said Port of Catoosa Director Bob Portiss and Tulsa International Airport Director Jeff Mulder.

Within just a few miles Tulsa has several transportation entities – the airport, two railroad systems, water transportation at the Port of Catoosa and a four- or six-lane expressway system.

And it’s all tied together – either by rail or highway.

Claremore, Catoosa and Owasso specifically, and northeast Oklahoma in general would benefit from the situation, Mulder said.

The project to create a multimodal logistics center can be accomplished within two to three years, Portiss said. In transport operations, multimodal is a term applied to the movement of passengers or cargo by more than one method of transport... FULL ARTICLE
