OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A pickup truck with what the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said was at least eight people inside ran off snow-covered Interstate 44 into the Spring River near Miami (my-AM'-uh).
Video from KOTV in Tulsa showed rescuers in the water pulling people from the truck and loading them into medical helicopters. OHP Lt. George Brown said he did not know how many people had been removed from the truck or the extent of their injuries.
He said the number of people in the truck is based on witness accounts.
Brown said the pickup was westbound when it went over the bridge wall about 6:30 a.m. Thursday. He said westbound I-44 is closed and traffic heading from Missouri into Oklahoma was being diverted off I-44 onto U.S. 71 by the Missouri Highway Patrol.
