OKLAHOMA CITY -- History is about to be made in Oklahoma City. Thursday morning the brand new Eastbound I-40 crosstown will open to traffic. Beginning at 9 a.m. the Eastbound lanes on the current crosstown will be narrowed to one lane as crews begin shutting down each and every on and off ramp.
Terri Angier, with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, says, "The ramps will be closed because we don't want people getting on the existing highway when we're opening the new one and getting stuck there because at the ends they won't have a place to go."
Westbound traffic will not be impacted, but ODOT encourages Eastbound drivers to consider alternate routes, instead using I-240 or I-44 to get around town... FULL ARTICLE & WATCH VIDEO
