OKLAHOMA CITY
(AP) — The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says one of the largest construction projects funded by money from the federal stimulus package has been completed.

Officials said in a news release Friday that all lanes on the $60 million Interstate 40 construction project between Garth Brooks Boulevard in Yukon and U.S. 81 in El Reno opened this week ahead of schedule. The project encompassed nearly seven miles and includes roadway reconstruction, safety improvements and the rebuilding of I-40 bridges over several roads.

Officials say that section of I-40 was identified as one of the worst interstate pavements in the metropolitan area. The project was able to be expedited because of nearly $30 million in funding from the stimulus package.

Oklahoma has been awarded $465 million in stimulus funding for transportation projects.
