Oklahoma has a higher percentage of structurally deficient bridges than any other state except Pennsylvania, according to a new report based on 2009 federal transportation data.
There are 23,680 bridges in Oklahoma, and 22 percent of them are structurally deficient, according to the report released Wednesday by Washington, D.C.-based Transportation for America.
That’s nearly double the national average of 11.5 percent and higher than every state except Pennsylvania, which had a 26.5 percent deficiency rate.
Joining Oklahoma and Pennsylvania with structurally deficient bridge rates higher than 20 percent were Iowa, Rhode Island and South Dakota... FULL ARTICLE
