Reforming the workers' compensation system to reduce costs on business and local schools to improve student achievement as well as doing more with less as the state faces its steepest budget challenge in decades are among goals announced today by House Republicans.
House Speaker Chris Benge, surrounded by about 20 of the 61 other GOP House members, said a key priority will be to improve Oklahoma's sagging economy and create jobs.
Making government more efficient such as using more technology that will result in cost savings is another goal, said Benge, R-Tulsa.
"This year the budget will influence every policy decision we make," Benge said. "But we cannot use the current shortfall as an excuse to stop the momentum we have seen in recent years."...
