Such is the political and fiscal climate at the state Capitol among Republicans in the House of Representatives that even the idea of members approving a bond issue to pay for repairs to the building is a bridge too far.
Members recognize the need to make those repairs, estimated at $140 million — every day, they walk past areas that are cordoned off to keep visitors from perhaps being struck by falling debris. They just aren't going to approve a general obligation bond issue to do it.
Instead, expect the Legislature to shirk that responsibility and leave it to the voters to decide.
