State House and Senate members formally elected their leaders Tuesday. Afterward, a legislator called on the House speaker to investigate the actions of a member who has been charged with bribery.
House Speaker Kris Steele, R-Shawnee, was elected along party lines to the leadership post. With two members absent, Steele won the powerful post, 69-30, over House Democratic leader Scott Inman, of Del City.
In the Senate, members unanimously elected Sen. Brian Bingman, R-Sapulpa, as president pro tem. There were no other nominees for the post.
The actions marked the first session of Oklahoma's 53rd Legislature. Each session lasts two years.
Rep. Randy Terrill dismissed talk of a House investigation, saying it is a continuation of the political attack being made against him. Terrill, R-Moore, made his initial court appearance Monday on the felony count. He has said he is innocent... FULL ARTICLE
