Oklahoma officials approve road work plan

The state Transportation Department approved its eight-year roadwork plan. The plan calls for improvements to the Broadway Extension as well as nearly 650 bridge projects.

Improvements to the Broadway Extension are on a list of proposed projects the state Transportation Department approved Tuesday.

The commission that oversees operations at the department approved an eight-year construction plan that includes nearly $4.3 billion in statewide highway and bridge projects to be completed by the end of 2018. The list of proposed projects is updated each year and must be approved by the commission.

The plan adopted Tuesday includes more than 650 bridge replacements or major improvements, as well as 1,750 road projects and improvements to main thoroughfares in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
