Oklahoma Senate Republicans put focus on public safety

Senate Republicans on Thursday outlined their legislative agenda for public safety measures, which included helping law enforcement upgrade radio technology, continued funding for roads and making it easier for people to get permits to carry a concealed firearm.

In the second of three news conferences to roll out their legislative agenda, Senate Republicans pledged continued support for public safety measures as agencies struggle with decreased budgets brought on by a slump in state tax revenue.

"We need a strong transportation infrastructure in which to conduct business,” said floor leader Sen. Todd Lamb, R-Edmond. "This agenda provides for a job-friendly and family-friendly environment we desire and expect in Oklahoma.”

Sen. Anthony Sykes, R-Moore, said law enforcement agencies should be able to communicate and he would work to promote a statewide 800 megahertz law enforcement communications network. Republicans also said they would push legislation to expand 911 services in rural areas... FULL ARTICLE
