The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority is looking at widening stretches of the Kilpatrick Turnpike in Oklahoma City and the Creek Turnpike in Tulsa to accommodate increasing traffic.

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority approved the first step Wednesday of expanding seven miles of the busiest section of the John Kilpatrick Turnpike from four to six lanes.
The authority approved a $1.44 million contract with CP&Y consultants to come up with design plans and cost estimates on widening the turnpike from Eastern Avenue to MacArthur Boulevard. The authority also approved a similar $1.36 million contract with the Benham Cos. to widen about eight miles of the Creek Turnpike in Tulsa from four to six lanes. The area is from U.S. 75 to Memorial Drive.
Plans are for an inside lane to be added in each direction on both the Kilpatrick and Creek turnpikes, authority spokesman Jack Damrill said. The lanes will be built on existing median space; concrete barriers likely would be put up to separate motorists going in the opposite direction after the work is finished.
After the lanes are added, existing bridges will be widened, and work will be done on interchanges, Damrill said. Each section of turnpike to be expanded has 18 bridges, nine in each direction. After the widening work, the paired bridges will be nearly next to each other... FULL ARTICLE
