OKLAHOMA CITY -- Mary Fallin became the state's first female governor Monday during a frigid ceremony on the south steps of the state Capitol.
Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice Steven W. Taylor administered the oath of office.
Fallin, a former U.S. House member, state representative and lieutenant governor, replaces Gov. Brad Henry, a Democrat.
"I stand before you today humbled by the deep honor and privilege to serve as your governor," Fallin told the crowd that persevered snowfall and freezing temperatures to see the historic event.
Fallin was the first of the state's statewide elected officers to be sworn into office.
She acknowledged the historic inauguration of the state's first female governor.
"But just like the first 26 governors of Oklahoma, I am foremost an Oklahoman who respects, embraces and celebrates our conservative values, the presence of divine guidance, the blessings of freedom, the privilege of self-government and the power of the people," Fallin said... FULL ARTICLE
