Oklahoma's fiscal year is off to a good start, reports show

Oklahoma revenue collections for July in all major areas are above the same month a year ago.

State revenue collections in all major areas during the first month of the state's fiscal year are above the amount received in July 2009, when state officials first began implementing 5 percent across-the-board cuts to make up for the shortfall.

As we begin the new fiscal year, the recovery of Oklahoma's economy is obviously under way," state Treasurer Scott Meacham said Tuesday.

Revenue collections for July give the state a good start on its new budget year, which started July 1, he said.

It was quite a contrast to a year ago, when state finance officials had to borrow about $54 million from cash reserves and other funds in order to pay monthly bills... FULL ARTICLE
