Oklahoma's personal income growth again ranks near the top

Oklahoma's personal income growth was among the nation's best in the April-to-June period, the second straight quarter Oklahoma's ranking has been among the top five states.

Oklahoma's personal income growth was among the nation's best in the April-to-June period, the second straight quarter Oklahoma's ranking has been among the top five states.

The states with the slowest personal income growth in the second quarter all had substantial bonuses paid to workers in the first quarter in major industries: durable goods manufacturing in the cases of Washington and Michigan, finance in the cases of New York and Delaware, and transportation and management of companies in the case of Georgia.

Economist Mickey Hepner said the numbers appear to signal a trend.

“The key point is that once again our personal income growth was among the highest in the nation in the second quarter,” said Hepner, dean of the University of Central Oklahoma's College of Business Administration.

Also trending is Oklahoma's superior personal income performance compared to Texas, Hepner said, “a state we like to compare ourselves to.” FULL ARTICLE
