Oklahoma's Supreme Court rejects lawsuit questioning licensing fees

Supreme Court says the case needs to go to district court first

The state Supreme Court on Tuesday decided that it would not hear a case challenging fees paid by licensed professionals in Oklahoma.

Oklahoma City attorney and taxpayer advocate Jerry Fent's lawsuit filed with the high court argues fees charged to licensed professionals are a tax on "working people" and unconstitutional.

In a ruling filed late Tuesday, eight justices denied Fent's request to hear the case in the state Supreme Court. Justice Joseph Watt was absent.

During oral arguments earlier in the day, Fent said a portion of the fees collected by agencies that regulate professional occupations goes to the general fund and that makes it an unfair tax.

"It's a tax they're paying," he insisted, "not a fee."  FULL ARTICLE
