University logos and team mascots should only be used to root for players, not political candidates or state questions, according to licensing officials at two large state universities.
Officials from Oklahoma State University and the University of Oklahoma on Wednesday urged supporters of a state question to mandate the level of funding for education to stop using trademarked university logos in their commercials.
Earlier this month, OU's vice president and general counsel sent a letter to gubernatorial candidates Democrat Jari Askins and Republican Mary Fallin asking them to stop selling or giving supporters T-shirts that said "Sooners for Jari," or "Sooners for Mary."
In the letters dated Sept. 3, Anil Gollahalli advised the campaigns that their use of OU's team moniker "may create a public misperception or confusion that campaign materials are affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by the University." FULL ARTICLE
