Outlying cities continue to dig out

Many roads have been opened, and crews make plans to get to residential streets next.

Tulsa's suburbs and outlying cities on Thursday continued to dig out from Tuesday's blizzard, as some highways reopened and officials worked to clear roads and streets.

Highways leading in and out of Bartlesville opened Thursday for the first time in two days. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol had closed U.S. 60 and U.S. 75 on Tuesday. U.S. 75 was the last to reopen, with some areas remaining a one-lane road.

"Travel is still slick and hazardous in some places," said Washington County Emergency Management Public Information Officer Melissa Pitner. "We are still having people get stuck, and we're having to help them out."

Some areas of Owasso received as much as 21 inches of snow Tuesday.

Crews have worked to make streets passable on all arterial streets in Owasso, but residents in some neighborhoods remain trapped by 4-foot drifts in driveways, Assistant City Manager Warren Lehr said.

"Unless you have a young person, a small person or someone who can go hard with a snow shovel, they (residents) are not getting out unless they can find help," he said.

Workers at City Hall are answering the phone and attempting to respond to people's needs, Lehr said... FULL ARTICLE
