Paving a safer route for kids

Tishomingo gets $180K grant from OTC

Tishomingo — Since 2002, the City of Tishomingo has had an interest in promoting a healthier lifestyle for its children. Thanks to the Oklahoma Transportation Commission, the city is taking another step in the right direction.

Literally.

Tishomingo is one of 16 cities across the state of Oklahoma that has been awarded a Safer Route to School grant.

The OTC awarded $3 million in individual grants Dec. 6 and Tishomingo will receive $180,000.

That money will be earmarked for sidewalks leading up to the middle school campus

“We are going to put about eight blocks of sidewalk leading to the middle school,” Tishomingo City Manager Jack Yates said. “They are going to go down South Byrd Street and down South Murray Street.” FULL ARTICLE
