Regarding "School funding issue stimulates debate" (news feature, Sept. 5) and State Question 744: Your discussion assumes efficiency or doesn't address the possibility of inefficiency in surrounding states and that this proposal would base our expenditures on those possibly out-of-control costs. Would you assume your neighbors know how to spend money and base your household budget on their practices?
This discussion also doesn't take into consideration that Oklahoma has the lowest median household income ($42,822) in the region and that per-pupil spending is 17.9 percent of that. In Texas, where the median household income is $50,043, per-pupil spending is 16.7 percent of that. If Oklahoma raised its spending to the $9,147 average, it would be 21.4 percent of the median household income, a 20 percent increase... FULL ARTICLE
