Photo finish: Revenue trending to happier ending (EDITORIAL)

The 1945 flag-raising photograph from Iwo Jima is unsurpassed in forging an unforgettable image. No moving picture of the event would be quite so memorable. Yet a picture in motion is sometimes more telling than a snapshot.

Consider state revenues. The snapshot that will emerge next month, when the fiscal year's final numbers are in, will likely show dramatic declines from one year earlier. The moving picture, though, will show something quite different: Improvements that began in February continue to develop.

We're moving further into recovery from the Great Recession, state Treasurer Scott Meacham said in releasing figures for May state revenue receipts. May figures were up 6 percent from the comparable month in 2009. The June outlook is also bright... FULL ARTICLE
