The Oklahoma Department of Transportation chose Garver LLC on Monday to complete the initial engineering studies and construction plans for the new Interstate 244 westbound bridge over the Arkansas River.
Transportation commissioners awarded a $2.5 million contract to the company at the agency's regular meeting Monday. Garver LLC has an office in Tulsa.
The federal government awarded a $49.48 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant, known as a TIGER grant, to ODOT last month to help replace the bridge. Department Director Gary Ridley said the total cost of the westbound project is estimated at $80 million.
The estimated cost of the adjacent eastbound bridge is $45 million to $50 million. The state has yet to solidify funding for that bridge.
Ridley said he hoped that construction on the new westbound bridge would go to bid late this year...
