Plowing reveals pothole problems

City crews focus on snow removal while ODOT begins patching damaged highways.

Even after the snow and ice are gone, Oklahoma Department of Transportation crews will continue fighting the effects of the recent storms.

"They go from 24/7 snow and ice fighting to responding to potholes," said Randle White, ODOT division engineer for the Tulsa County area.

In some cases, workers have already turned their attention to the car-rattling holes, created when moisture seeps into the roadway and weakens the concrete or pavement.

White said most of the initial pothole repairs will be temporary patches to make the highways safe for drivers. Later, ODOT could cut out the section of roadway and replace the pothole with a permanent patch.
