Poll gives GOP edge in fixing budget

Oklahomans have more confidence in Republicans to handle the state's budget crisis but don't seem to have great faith in either party, according to the most recent Oklahoma Poll.

Forty-two percent of those surveyed said the GOP is best-suited to guide state government through its tight financial straits. About one-quarter preferred Democrats, while 15 percent said neither and 9 percent said both.

The difference, said poll respondent Clarence Roberts of Mannford, is honesty.

"I have come to realize the things I hold dear — that is, liberty, truth and justice — is represented by the Republican Party," said Roberts. "As time goes on, the honesty factor continues to erode the Democratic Party... FULL ARTICLE
