Candidates outline some goals

Sounds as if we're going to have another education governor.
Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, the Democratic nominee for governor, and U.S. Rep. Mary Fallin, the Republican, both spoke about education issues at a forum on early childhood education recently, along with the two major-party nominees for superintendent of education.
All the candidates made the right noises about education - how early childhood education helps prepare youngsters for the future, how high-quality education programs help improve the economy.
So whether Askins or Fallin is elected to the state's top post, it appears we'll again have a governor who makes education a top priority, following in the footsteps of outgoing Gov. Brad Henry.
But Henry would be the first to tell his successor that without the support of the Legislature and without adequate funding, raising Oklahoma's educational standards and offerings is not an easy task... FULL ARTICLE
