A national initiative to increase job and career opportunities in the transportation, aviation and aerospace industries rolled out its training and internship program in Tulsa on Wednesday with hopes for positive outcomes for both employers and workers.
The opening of the Transportation Connections WorkAdvance center at 907 S. Detroit Ave. will provide unemployed and underemployed students and workers with a career advancement program offering technical training and job placement opportunities in the transportation industry, officials said.
Mayor Dewey Bartlett said the program is a great opportunity for potential entrants in the transportation industry and their future employers who have told the mayor and the Tulsa Metro Chamber that they can't find enough qualified workers.
"The Transportation Connections WorkAdvance initiative is supporting job growth and providing citizens with the necessary skills for job placement in an industry that continues to grow in Tulsa," Bartlett said. "This initiative will not only have a positive impact on our workforce but will improve upon the quality of life for Tulsans."
The WorkAdvance program already has enrolled its first 80 participants, officials said. The program is cooperating with 14 employers, and its leaders say they hope to reach more than 400 potential program participants and partner with 30 employers by the end of this year... FULL ARTICLE
