Proposed road improvements along Route 66 have been met with opposition by people in Arcadia for fear the aesthetics of the historical roadway would change.
City of Edmond officials, meanwhile, welcome the plan to widen the two-lane road where it travels past a proposed community park and softball fields at Post Road.
State Transportation Department officials have proposed widening the highway to four lanes from Post Road to the east 1.6 miles to the Coffee Creek bridge because of increased traffic in the area, said Cole Hackett, department spokesman.
Edmond Parks Director Jim Bowlin said the city also is interested in the ambience of Route 66 because the new park is expected to have a Route 66 theme and decor... FULL ARTICLE
